In 2010-2011 Nurture piloted teaching our Family Program kids lessons in classrooms in several Chicago North Shore schools. Based on our learning, Nurture is excited to announce the pilot of a new grade-specific elementary curriculum. Core Nurture concepts are matched to specific grades to best suit the developmental stages of the students. These topics are taught through a combination of lessons, PE activities, and classroom supplemental activities. The topics below and fitness are the primary focus.
1st Grade: Go and Slow Foods, Fruits and Vegetables, and Growing a Strong Body
2nd Grade: MyPlate, Sensational Snacks, and Flexibility
3rd Grade: Breakfast, Better Beverages, and TV Tune-out
4th Grade: Whole Grains, Pack a Better Lunch, and Sleep
5th Grade: Portion Distortion, Food Marketing, and Sleep Cycles
In addition to enhancing the curriculum, Nurture is partnering with more schools. We are currently partnering with Oak Terrace Elementary in Highwood, IL, Dewey Elementary in Evanston, IL, Edison Elementary in Skokie, IL, Avoca Elementary in Glenview, IL and The Community School in Sun Valley, ID.
