Nurture offers numerous opportunities to volunteer your time and talents toward fun and rewarding work. Committee work is fun, flexible and varied. The following committees are seeking members – please contact the committee leader for details.
Communications
Leader: Colleen Scopacasa
The Communications committee is responsible for external messages via the media/press, Facebook, the website and annual reports. The communications committee also ensures consistency and professionalism in the appearance of all recipes posted to the Nurture website. We are looking for volunteers with writing skills and proficiency in Word and Power Point.
Community Outreach/Volunteer Recruitment
Leader: Gina Gooden
The Community Outreach/Volunteer Recruitment committee is responsible for creating and maintaining relationships between Nurture and other organizations related to children’s cooking, nutrition, gardening, and health. This committee also acts as a liaison between Nurture and other local potential class sites (e.g. faith based organizations, etc.), clubs (e.g., women’s clubs, etc.) and volunteer centers. We are looking for volunteers with people skills and a love of networking.
Curriculum Development/Training

Leaders: Juliette Britton and Heather Sullivan
The Curriculum Development/Training committee is responsible for content we teach through our educational programs, including setting up in-person and virtual training sessions to build our trained instructor base. We are looking for volunteers that have strong writing and organizational skills. If you are a teacher/retired teacher, we encourage you to reach out to this committee, as we could especially use your skill set!
Food and Nutrition

Leaders: Julia Goodhouse and Heather Sullivan
The Food and Nutrition committee is responsible for developing, testing and documenting recipes. We look at the entire picture of planning, budgeting and shopping to help our participants eat a nutritionally sound diet on a limited budget. We also work with food pantries to improve their results of food drives and optimize use of their pantry staples. We are looking for volunteers with a love of food and cooking, but we also need Word, Power Point and Excel skills to help us get our work done! Registered Dieticians or students studying for their R.D are encouraged to contact this committee, as we need to carefully analyze each recipe to ensure that it meets guidelines for the nutritional needs of our participants.
Fundraising
Leader: Kathryn Guylay
The Fundraising committee is responsible for grants, campaigns, alternative revenue stream development, and special fundraising events. We are looking for a variety of volunteer profiles including writers, event planners, analytical thinkers, and folks that are willing to help with discrete tasks such as writing letters and making phone calls.
Program Evaluation
Leader: Stephanie Fine
The program evaluation committee is responsible for measuring the impact of Nurture’s program work and its follow up to program participants over time (alumni relations). We are looking for a variety of volunteer profiles including analytical thinkers, writers (for our Alumni follow up) and folks that would be interested in helping with discrete tasks such as updating excel spreadsheets and making phone calls.
Volunteer Coordination
Leader: Lisa Brewer
The Volunteer Coordination committee is responsible for getting to know our volunteers better so that we can best match skill sets and interest with the opportunities at Nurture. We are looking for volunteers with strong people skills as well as organizational abilities. Knowledge of Excel would be a plus for this committee!
